Kathleen K.
Kathleen started working from
home, initially, from 2002-2004, due to some
medical issues she was facing in her life at
that time. She then decided to look for
telecommuting jobs that she could do on
a more permanent basis in 2005. She’s been
working from home ever since.
She made her decision to find telecommuting
work after she had her daughter. She started
out working and putting her child in
daycare, but she found that it was too hard
to leave her there. She wanted to spend more
time with her family and less time with
work.
It took her about 2 years to find a
legitimate company to work for from home.
She says that luckily she never fell for any
of the internet scams that are prevalent
throughout the online world; but she admits
that it’s mostly because she didn’t have the
extra money to spare to pay for those types
of jobs.
Kathleen utilized many work from home
websites to gain enough knowledge and
acquire leads to find the telecommuting jobs
that she landed. She owes a lot to those
informational telecommuting websites as she
says she wouldn’t have found anything
without them being available to her.
In the 5 years that she has spent working
from her home, she has found many different
companies to do various types of jobs for.
She worked in the virtual call
center/customer service field and technical
support through her own phone line. Today,
she is currently doing non-phone type work.
She works as a quality rater and an
independent contractor for a market research
company.
Kathleen has successfully implemented her
telecommuting experience as she not only is
able to work full time from home, but says
she could actually work more hours. She
chooses not to, as time with her family is
her main focus and why she wanted to start
working from home in the first place.
Kathleen’s advice to anybody out there
looking to work from their home is to
utilize the many telecommuting websites that
are available on the internet. She
encourages those searching for jobs to join
their communities for information to aid in
their search. She also offers a tip that she
has learned along the way, which is,
“Never pay to work for a company unless it
is a known company and you are only paying a
nominal fee for a background check or
equipment; find a space in your home that is
organized, comfortable and quiet to have
your office in and take your time-
eventually you’ll find the perfect job, but
there is a learning curve!”
