Data Entry Work from Home

Learn How To Do Data Entry Work from Home

Data entry involves entering specific information into a spreadsheet for easier viewing. Each employer that hires someone to perform data entering, will have different types of information entered in different spreadsheet set ups.

This is the most sought after telecommuting position out there. While there are true data entry jobs available; you’ll find that most are infamous online scams. It’s important that you research any data entry job ad you come across before applying.

Where to find Data entry jobs:

The online job searching boards are the first places to start. There are several to choose from, so be sure to search each one for any available positions. You can also check out telecommuting job sites, such as Just Online Jobs, to see if there are any positions available to apply for.

Your best bet to finding these jobs, though, is by using the freelance bidding job sites, such as Elance or ifreelance. As with the telecommuting data entry positions, competition for the freelance positions can be fierce as well, so be sure your bids outshine the rest.

Skills you need:

Data entry doesn’t need special schooling or certifications to perform. You should, however, be knowledgeable of spreadsheet programs like Excel. You should have good typing and 10 key speeds as well. 10 key speeds are sometimes a requirement for some companies.

You may need to have good listening skills as some data entry projects will require you to extract certain information from audio files to place into spreadsheets.

Tools you need:

You should have a reliable computer with a high speed internet connection. You will need a spreadsheet program installed; preferably Microsoft Excel as this is the most common program used by most companies. You should have an email program to use for sending and receiving the projects as well.

How much money can you make?

Data entry is usually paid a per line rate. This can vary from .08-.12 per line completed in projects. On a rare occasion, a company may pay an hourly rate, which you can expect to be about $7-$8 an hour.
