Become a Website Designer

Work at Home Idea: Website Designer

If you have some experience in designing websites whether it’s ones you did for yourself or ones you did for others, this could be a good telecommuting opportunity for you to check into. Most companies are starting to offer websites to showcase their business. There are even some individuals who are looking to start a website either for fun or for profit, so the possibilities for telecommuting web design jobs are there.

Where to find Web design jobs:

These website design jobs are usually found on the popular online job board websites. There you will find many companies looking to hire designers to add to their business team or those who are just looking to get a few projects done.

If you’re looking to offer your web design services as a freelancer, you should check out the freelance bidding sites, such as guru.com and getafreelancer.com. They have job postings specifically for website designers.

Skills you need:

In order to get a telecommuting web design position, you will need some experience at designing websites. At the very least you could have some training under your belt if you don’t have experience. Most companies only hire those with experience, because of the technical intricacies that designing poses.

One way to gain some experience is to use the freelance bidding sites and design a few sites for the clients there. This will help you have some experience to add to your resume when applying for the site designing jobs.

Tools you need:

You will need a computer with a high speed internet connection. A website building software program should be installed on your computer to help make the designing process easier for you. Your computer should also be equipped with a file transfer program to upload files onto website servers.

How much money can you make?

How much money you can make in website designing, depends heavily on how much experience and skill you have at doing the designing. The people who have extensive experience can make $40-$50 an hour and then some. The ones with less experience can see $20-$30 an hour.

Those who choose to design as a freelancer, generally will charge anywhere from $15-$100 an hour. Some offer a per project rate, but most choose to go with an hourly rate as the job can entail a lot of work.
