Bidding Mistakes for Freelance Writing
Opportunities
There are many freelancers who use the bidding sites, so competition can get fierce for some of the freelance work. Standing out from the crowd of bidders will be necessary in order to win some of the bids on these boards, so one can’t afford to make too many mistakes when placing their bids. Here are the top 5 bidding mistakes freelancers make that can cost them the job:
1. Not writing enough information with your bid- Bids that only say “I can do this for you!” is nice, but it doesn’t tell the person hiring much about you. Don’t assume they’ll check out your profile/resume just because you placed a bid. If there are a lot of bids for a job posting, the posters will scan quickly through the ones that interest them and only check them out more. If your bid doesn’t tell them much about what you can do, your profile probably won’t be one that will be checked.
2. Spelling/grammar errors in the bids- The people that post jobs for freelancers are looking for professionals. A bid that contains spelling and grammar mistakes shows how unprofessional you are. It also shows the job posters that you rushed through the job bid, which will concern them that you will rush through their project. Show them you care about their project by checking your spelling and grammar.
3. Putting in information that doesn’t relate to the specific job you’re posting a bid on- If someone places a job posting for a freelancer to write financial articles, they won’t be interested in someone that shares they have written several dog grooming articles. If it doesn’t pertain to the job that was posted, don’t put it in the bid.
4. Not putting forth your best effort- When you do win job bids, make sure you put out your best for the project. If you hand over sloppy work, this can affect your rating and can hurt your chances for higher paying freelance jobs. Make sure you do good work and meet the deadline agreed upon.
5. Bidding on jobs you have no specific skills to do- If a job posting requires a skill you don’t have, don’t bid on it. Dishonesty will come back to haunt you. The person who posted the job may remember your dishonesty the next time they need a project done that you have the skills to do.
Avoiding these mistakes can help you win some of the jobs/projects that you bid on. The more projects that you do well, the better ratings your profile will have. This will help kick start your freelancing career when job posters can see that you’re dependable, trustworthy and professional as well as skilled to do the job.
